CalAmp Announces the New Viper-200 IP Router for Licensed Spectrum

OXNARD, Calif., Sept. 10, 2010--CalAmp Corp. (NASDAQ: CAMP), a leading provider of industrial wireless solutions for private and public infrastructure, today announces the availability of the Viper-200, and extraordinary new wireless Ethernet/IP router and bridge for high speed, high-power licensed VHF operations at 200 MHz.

The 200Mhz band is prized for high-speed, long-range communications without interference in modern SmartGrid applications, and the Viper-200 significantly advances the state of the art in industrial-grade 200 MHz licensed networking solutions, with power output to 10 watts, unparalleled operational flexibility, and class-leading security and reliability features.

Viper-200 offers data rates up to 128 kbps in a 50 KHz channel over long ranges, and can easily be configured for use as either a transparent Ethernet bridge or a highly capable network router supporting full Telnet access to remote RTU/PLC devices. Viper-200 also employs sophisticated route redundancy capabilities to dramatically improve communications reliability even during conditions of degraded network operation.

Viper-200 supports both point-to-point and point-to-multipoint network configuration options, and further offers single or multiple-radio store and forward operation. This permits network designers to create multi-hop peer-to-peer-like architectures that significantly reduce the need for, and cost of additional private wireless infrastructure deployment.

Viper-200 also sets new standards for wireless security. In addition to AES 128, 192, and 256-bit encryption, Viper-200 offers a CalAmp-designed cryptographic module that has been built to meet or exceed the requirements set forth in the NIST FIPS 140-2 Level 1 standard.

“Every radio we make is designed for maximum deployment flexibility,” says Rick Nozel, Senior VP of Sales and Marketing for CalAmp,“ and the Viper-200 continues that tradition with industrial networking features that no one else can offer. With the Viper-200, SCADA designers, integrators and end users now have deployment options that were unthinkable even a few years ago. The familiar shortcomings of unlicensed communications – range, coverage, reliability – need no longer constrain industrial network designers.”
